Reading Journal Week 37 - Pure Emotion - 2016

I am doing a pure emotion blog post.

Chasing Lincoln's Killer
James L. Swanson

In this book, Lincoln is shot in the head during an acting show by John Booth. They don't really explain how the wife felt after this incident. The wife was sitting right next to him when this happened. Lincoln's wife must be having mixed emotions at this time. She obviously will be sad because her husband died. She will probably be mad at the person who shot her husband, maybe even mad at herself. Since she was right next to him when this happened, she might be thinking she could have done something to stop it. People have weird minds during these times, blaming themselves when they did all they could. She also might be disturbed because she witnessed someone getting shot right in front of her. Someone at my church has just experienced the loss of their husband. She might be having some of the same emotions as Lincoln's wife, maybe different. I feel like  the death of someone who is special to us is very hard to accept. It can lead to people doing some crazy things because they miss that person that they cared about so much, they don't feel like they can survive without them. The effect of death can affect many people without them realizing. This part of the book made me really think about the people who have been through this, especially the person at my church.

Reading Journal Week 35 - Heart of a poet - 2016

I am doing a  heart of a poet blog post.

Boost

Kathy Mackel

How far shall I go,
to boost up my play?
Workout a little more,
practice some more.
How far will I go,
to boost up my play?
Maybe just a sip,
it wouldn't hurt.
How far will I allow myself,
to boost up my play?
Whatever it takes to be the best.
How far will my team allow
me to boost up my play?
Whatever it takes,
because they are doing the same.
How far will my parents allow
me boost up my play?
They don't have to
know about it.
But what is best for me.
If a take a sip like the rest of the team,
is that really what is best for me.
Is it considered cheating?

I wrote this poem because she is conflicting with herself whether or not she should have the drink that is boosting up her teammates game. The first four lines is talking about how far should she go to make her play better. The next four lines are talking about how far will she go. She doesn't want to drink it, but if it gets her more energy she might consider it. The next four lines are about how far should and will she allow herself to play better. The rest of the poem is basically what her team and parents would think if she started to drink what the rest of the team she drinking. Then the last part is her thinking about if it is worth it and if it is kind of cheating.

Reading Journal Week 34 - Prediction - 2016

I am doing a prediction blog post.

Boost
Kathy Mackel

Savvy who is fourteen plays basketball, she is one of the best ones in her age group. She usually tries out for the sixteen age group, but a person she met wants her to tryout for the eighteen year old group. So she decided to give it a try. After the tryouts the couch talked to her about if he lets her join this team she has to improve on being a better teammate. Savvy is used to carrying out the team because she is the best. My prediction is she will start to take some pills to boost up her playing. When I first looked at the book cover I knew that it had something to do with taking pills and basketball. I just didn't know what the relationship between the two. The name of the book said she was trying to boost something up or herself. I was curious so I read the summary of the book. The summary said, "How far will she go to do that?" Meaning so far will she go to boost up her playing. So while I was reading I found out she loves basketball a lot. She is so good that she is a fourteen year old playing with sixteen year old and she is at the top. Some people are willing to do anything to be the best at the thing he does. The couch for the eighteen year old group says that she has to work very hard if he lets her join the team. She is used to carrying on the team because she is the best, but now she has to learn to work together. I also think she is going to take pills because the eighteen year old's didn't think that she could do it. So she wouldn't want to give up and be bullied if she doesn't make it. The girl she met got in and she doesn't want to seem like a failure. Plus if she doesn't make it she won't have anyone else to talk to. Last but not least she won't be able to join another team because she tried out for the eighteen year old one.

Reading Journal Week 33 - Pure Emotion - 2016

I am a pure emotions blog post.

Ask Me No Questions
Marina Budhos

In this book Nadira and her sister's relationship isn't the greatest. They don't get along, her parents seem to like her sister better than her. Nadira is also 'bullied' by her family members. They put her down by always complimenting her sister instead of her, they say she is too fat and needs to lose weight. They made a comment to her, they basically said that if they ever had to run that she wouldn't be able to keep up. Her uncle also doesn't like how she is always believing what father says. Her father also makes promises to Aisha (the sister) about how they will get her to college. They never ever have a nice comment to say to Nadira. This makes me very bad because they may not like her as much as Aisha, but they should still say nice things to her. It puts herself of esteem down. It is not right to put a child down especially if they are already going through a hard time. I also feel sad for Nadira, she already has to go through trying to find a place to call him and now her family doesn't notice her. People need to realize that this can lead people to kill themselves. They might start to feel like they aren't worth anything, that they are a waste of space. One thing a parent should do is support their child's dreams, lift them up when they are feeling down. Obliviously Nadira's parents and family members don't realize what they are doing to her.

Reading Journal Week 31 - Pure Emotion - 2016

I am doing a Pure Emotions Blog Post.

ASK ME NO QUESTIONS

MARINA BUDHOS

This book is about a family who are Muslim, and are trying to find a permanent place to live. There passports are expired, so if the wrong person finds out they will be put in jail. They are trying to get to Canada to sign up for asylum. When they get to the bored of Canada they have some difficulties. Father is put into person and the only way for him to come out is if they pay $5,000. There family is very poor they don't have this kind of money. This made me feel sad that they have been trying to find a place to call home, but can't find one because of their religion. Image you and your family driving from place to place, trying to find a country, a state, a city, a town that will accept you, but none do. I also feel mad that people back then and now can be so harsh and hateful of what people believe. It's not fair for someone to be worrying about were they are going to stay, what they are going to eat, are they protected at the place they are at. People don't care about other peoples needs, wants, beliefs like they should. Would you want to feel rejected everywhere you go, not feeling accepted? Would you really want to live in fear everyday? Some people don't know what they are causing these people. Some don't care what they would to people, as long as there life is perfect. People can be so selfish and so mean to other people because they don't act or believe like you. It's not fair to anyone.

Reading Journal Week 30 - Book Review - 2016

I am doing Book Review Blog Post.

Playing Cupid
Jenny Meyerhoff

The book was about a girl named Clara who matched people together. She would play this game at the store with her friend, Emily. Clara used to get bullied at her old school, so see chose to be friends with a popular group of people. Soon her school does something to raise money and the children have to come up with a business. Clara chooses to do a matchmaking business. The story is basically about her trying to find a balance between her parents divorce, friends, boyfriends, and school work.
I liked how the girl didn't want to find love, but she ended up doing so in the end. It is like telling the people out there who don't think love will work for them that they might find love when they don't mean to. It might not work for some people, in the beginning, that doesn't mean you have to give up.
The book is too cliche, I could basically predict what happened. They make to many books like this. It would have been better if something bad happened, instead of something good. Why do books like this always have to end on a good note?
Out of ten, I give it a six. I give a six because the book was kind of cliche but it was also good. I wouldn't really recommend this book to a person who takes books seriously or hates cliche books. I would maybe recommend it for someone who doesn't really have experience with cliche books or doesn't mind them.

Reading Journal Week 28 - Heart of a Poet - 2016

I am doing a Heart of a Poet blog post.
Playing Cupid

Jenny Meyerhoff

Love
Watching people worry about love more than school.
Not knowing what love brings.
I witnessed my parents going through the same.
Why don't they realize what love does to people?
I will never make the same mistake as them.
Observing,
Watching,
Witnessing,
helped me make my decision.
Never will I cross the other side,
but what happens if I accidently do?

The first lines are talking about how she puts people's matches together. Even though she thinks live will always bring broken heart and nothing else. How she also witnessed her parents separation. That is why she thinks love isn't worth it. Then it says how she observes how addicted the people at her school want to know who they are matched with. Even though she thinks that they won't last. Then it says she will never cross that road. She is always saying she will never get a boyfriend, she won't make her heart go through that heartbreak. At the end, it says what happens if she does. I think this because there has been someone putting things in her locker, saying how much they like her. I have a feeling of who it is and I think she will grow to like that person too. Then she will have to decide whether or not she should ignore it or give love a chance.

Reading Journal Week 27 - Predictions - 2016

I am doing a Pure emotions blog post.

Playing Cupid
Jenny Meyerhoff

Clara has been working on her business to raise money for the school. She choose to match people together at her school. The thing is she doesn't want to to find a boyfriend for herself. She thinks that love isn't worth it because it will always lead to broken hearts. I think she will end up liking someone who already likes her. She will try to ignore and dismiss her feelings. I think this because their has been someone putting letters in her locker. She wants to know who it is but she doesn't want to know because she is afraid that she will start to have feelings for that person. I also think this because her next door neighbor Joey, is always being nice to her and she ignores him at school. I think Joey likes her but doesn't want to admit it because he is scared. I also think that she has some feelings for Joey but doesn't know it yet. The more she makes on saying she won't get a boyfriend, I think the more her feelings will come out. I also think this is because this guy at her school, Mateo, has some feelings for her.

Reading Journal Week 26 - Pure Emotion - 2016

I am doing a Pure emotions blog post.

Playing Cupid
Jenny Meyerhoff

This book is about a girl named Clara, who matches strangers together. She will go to stores, observe people that have the same interest in things and try to put them together. She is really good at it, so when the school is looking for people to raise money for something. She choose to find  people at her school, that would be interested. They answer some questions and she goes to find their match. Clara doesn't want a boyfriend, because she believes that love always leads to a broken heart. Just like what her mother did to her father. So she doesn't want to end up like them.
It is sad saying no to love because you have lost hope in it. It is not her fault for thinking that love brings broken hearts. She believes this because she has never seen love turn into a different result. It makes me feel sad that some people have lost all hope in love because of a past relationship. They get into this mind set that they are incapable of being loved, and that love is hopeless for them. It also makes a mad when people cheat on their girlfriend/boyfriend or wife/husband, then they say that they still love them. How can you love a person, but you are doing things behind their back? It makes you question if they really loved them. Sometimes they have stopped loving them, so they think it's okay to cheat on them. If you don't love the person anymore than you should tell them how you feel. Cheating on them makes the situation worst.

Reading Journal Week 22 - Pure Emotion - 2016

I am doing a Reading Journal blog.

Squashed
BY JOAN BAUER

My book is about this 16 year old girl who wants to grow the biggest pumpkin. She enters into the adult biggest pumpkin contest every year. She spends all her time growing her pumpkin, Max. Her dad doesn't like her doing this, he never liked gardening. Now that the contest is about 40 days away, she wants to drop out of school until after the contest. Her dad doesn't want that to happen, he feels she sends to much time with her stupid pumpkin. I think Ellie (the one who grows pumpkins) is kind of weird. Why would you spend all your time on a pumpkin. Then again we all have our dreams, our differences. I feel like the dad is being a bit harsh to her. I know it is kind of weird to focus on a pumpkin 24/7, but that's her dream. I would be a little upset if she was my child and she cared more about a pumpkin then school.

Reading Journal Week 21 - Pure Emotion - 2016

I am doing a Pure Emotion Reading Journal Blog.

Four
By Veronica Roth

So, in Four they have this thing where you inject a serum into you. This is where you can see all of your worst fears. Four/ Tobias's worst fear is Marcus, his father abusing him. Back in Abnegation Marcus would always beat Tobias for anything he thought he did wrong even if he did nothing wrong. He is also afraid of heights, confinement, and shooting people. So, during his training to become a dauntless member he has to go through his fear landscape everyday. Amar, Tobias instructor treats him like his son. He sees the struggle he has to go through everyday. This reminds me of children in the orphanage. How there parents abused them, didn't want them, or died. How they have to wait everyday waiting impatiently, slowly losing hope that someone will adopt them. I feel very sad that they have to go through so much at a young age. Waiting for a mother and a father to love them. Then when know no comes to adopt them, take them as their own. They start to feel unwanted, they start to lose hope that a person will ever love them. It is pretty sad, but then I feel angry at their parents who just   abandoned them. If you don't want a child, why have one? If you don't have enough money to take care of one, why have one? People just don't think before they do. You must first think about you and the baby. If you can't take care of it, don't have one? Because later on, when your child is in an orphanage and they don't get adopted. They are the ones who are going to be felt feeling like they are worth nothing. I just don't get parents sometimes.

Reading Journal Week 20 - Pure Emotions - 2016

I am doing a Reading Journal?
Four

By Veronica Roth

This book is in Four's prov. from the book of Divergent. Four has a father who abuses him. Four has done nothing wrong. He is very respectful, he doesn't deserve to be abused. This is the same situation children who are abused today. They have done nothing wrong but their parents just choose to abuse them. Sometimes the children many have done something but the parents over reaction. When they talked about how Four gets abused by his father. It makes me feel mad, sad, and angry. I feel mad because I don't feel like the government is doing enough. I don't see them doing enough for all the children in the world who are being abused. I fell sad, because some innocent child has to suffer. I feel angry because the parents who are doing this shouldn't be doing this to their children. That is why that part of the book touched me.

Reading Journal Week 19 - Asking Questions and Wondering - 2016

The Great Controversy
Ellen G. White

Questions

1. What caused the Destruction of Jerusalem?
2. What were the persecutions like in the first centuries?
3. How did they get through them?
4. Where there less Christians because of this?
5. What did Satan urge the papal priests and prelates do?

Answering

1. The Jews had to much pride over the nation. Christ also saw in Jerusalem a symbol of the world hardened in unbelief and rebellion, and hastening on to meet the retributive judgement of God. The long-suffering of God toward Jerusalem only confirmed the Jews in their stubborn impenitence.
2. The followers of Christ must tread the same path of humiliation, reproach, and suffering which their Master trod.
3. The Christian got through the persecutions with words of faith, patience, and hope they encouraged one another to endure privation and distress.
4. The more the Christians had faith in God the more people wanted to follow him.
5. Satan urged them to bury the word of truth beneath the rubbish of error, heresy, and superstition.
